For Applicants

Dear Interested Students,

Assignment to one of the 128 spaces in Bryan Hall is contingent upon an incoming freshman's acceptance into the Bryan Hall Learning Community. This program's application materials do not ask for grades or test scores; instead, they ask the applicant to write two essays that focus on curiosity and the desire to learn. The program's Steering Committee, comprised of faculty members, student affairs professionals, and students who have lived in Bryan Hall, reviews and rates all completed applications. The director of Bryan Hall, a faculty member from the College of Arts and Sciences, combines the individual ratings into one ranked list. If anyone among the top 128 applicants chooses not to accept the invitation, we proceed down the ranked list in order to honor the results of the thoughtful deliberations that are at the heart of this process.
